Affiliate Programs Choices

The First Step
You will need to figure out what Product, Service and Type of affiliate programme will work for you. Perhaps pay per click or one that will compliment your site or blog.
It will take time, ''there is no rush'' but the sooner you see what is working for you, the better.

Most affiliate providers offer you an account. In your account will be statistics that will catalogue everything from the amount of sales you generate to individual sales per vendor. Even page impressions from your site. So seeing what is working and what is not working will be easy.
Go ahead and try lots of Affiliate Types. But the sooner you decide on which is working for you and concentrate on making it bigger or increase it's awareness to your traffic the better. When you have one or two that are proven to be working, remove others and give them more impact and watch them slowly grow.
Even add newer links and try alternative products or services.
The key to making them work is knowing how they work! ?

Setting them up in the correct manner to target your audience.

There are three main choices when it comes to Affiliate Programs and your web site.

'click through affiliates'
'sale or lead affiliates'
'tier type or bonus affiliates'

Click through affiliate programme 'pay per click'
Most advertising on web sites is Click Through Advertising.
Take Google Adsense for example. (One that I also use) Google Adsense pays you when a person clicks on a Google Ad link. A person with a product is paying Google to place ads on sites. I have a Google Adsense account for web statistics etc., which incorporates Google Adsense.
I browse the Google Ads for a theme or change a few colours of the ads and then click finish to get the code that gets placed as HTML on my page. And that's it. I do nothing more with it except maybe fiddle with a few keywords to get more relevant ads, or block particular advertising for anything that I don't like, IE 'Illegal Sites' 'Smut' or 'Hate'.
But Google ad links are harder to control and you'll never know exactly what product or service will be advertised. Because of this your income from clicks will vary. You can filter out certain sites or keywords but it is Google that makes the choice for your pay per click ads and sets the payment amount. You can narrow your market and try to get good paying links, but in the end it's still a lottery. With affiliates you control what is presented and how much you make per click. Anything from 1 cent to $5.00+ per click is possible. Your customer arrives, has a look, likes something, and click! Your customer has left and you have X amount for sending the customer. Very simple and very easy to manage.

Sale or Lead Affiliates
This type of affiliate programme is most likely Banner Ads. Some times you may end up with a whole page devoted to just one product. Even whole web sites are out there for just one product. It varies because YOU get to choose what gets on your web site.
It still works the same as Click Through but the stakes are higher with percentage payments becoming the norm. You may end up with 33% of sale price. Or, it can be as little as 5% of sale price. The trick is to pick which one you think will make you the most money. 5% of something that will sell 10 times better than a 33% item depends on your traffic. A 'retirement living' web site won't sell to many cars or Alaskan Holidays, but it will sell Will Kits or investment information. (YES, you can sell cars off your web site!)

Tiered Affiliates and Bonuses
Some Affiliates offer a Tiered System. What happens is you join as an Affiliate and sell their products etc. Some people may join as Affiliates from a sale you've made or a click through. NOW. If that person sells something for 30% commission there may be a further commission for you as a bonus. If somebody signs up below that person, you may also get another bonus or percentage from their sales as well. Bonuses may even come from selling more of a certain product or service. Some have a Tiered Bonus and Sales Bonus combined. It will take a bit of searching and sifting to find who does what, but it may be in your best interest to use these types of systems.
Lets say you have a friend or work mate that is interested in doing exactly what your doing. Wouldn't it be better if you signed up first, then your friend signed up under you. That way you would gain extra income at nobody's expense except to the Affiliate provider. Your friend gets the same pay outs as he would if he did or didn't sign up under you. It's just another Bonus to look forward to. If you had more than one Affiliate program. You join first for one, your friend joins first for the other. Win Win..
